Overview

The Umbwe route deserves to be considered as the most challenging route, and that should be attempted by a strong and real adventurer team. This is because the trail is not well-maintained due to low traffic. The route does not give the necessary stage to acclimatization due to the fast ascent to high altitude, which may lead to altitude sickness. The success rate for this route at Moipo Adventures is 96%. The Umbwe route starts with a short drive from Moshi town to Umbwe gate, where the hike begins, later joins with Machame, Lemosho, and Shira routes at Baranco,, and heads east to Barafu camp before the summit. Its first day is covered with a real adventure experience in a thick, healthy forest and a wet trail. We offer this route for private hikes only and can be climbed in 6 days, or one can choose 7 days for better acclimatization, with a day spent at Baranco Camp.
