About Tanzania
Welcome to Tanzania, Africa!
The United Republic of Tanzania is located in Eastern Africa, spanning from 29 to 41 degrees east longitude and from 1 to 12 degrees south latitude. Tanzania was formed from the union of two sovereign states: Tanganyika and Zanzibar. Tanganyika became a sovereign state on December 9, 1961, and achieved full sovereignty the following year. Zanzibar gained independence on December 10, 1963, and the People's Republic of Zanzibar was established after the revolution on January 12, 1964. The two sovereign republics united to form the United Republic of Tanzania on April 26, 1964. Tanzania is a democratic country governed by a multi-party parliamentary system. The government operates as a unitary republic consisting of the Union Government and the Zanzibar Revolutionary Government. Among East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania), Tanzania has the largest land area.
The country features a spectacular landscape characterized by three main physiographic regions: the islands and coastal plains to the east, the inland saucer-shaped plateau, and the highlands. The Great Rift Valley, which runs from the northeast of Africa through central Tanzania, adds to the country's scenic beauty. Tanzania is also home to a vast concentration of wildlife, pristine sandy beaches, and Africa's highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro.
Tanzania boasts renowned national parks and game reserves, including the Ngorongoro Crater, Selous Game Reserve, Gombe Stream, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Mikumi, Arusha, Ruaha, Saadani, Udzungwa Mountains, and Mkomazi Game Reserve. Other notable game reserves include Amani, Kigosi, Lukwika-Lumesule, Maswa, Monduli Mountains, Msangesi, and Ugala.
Dar es Salaam is the commercial capital and major seaport of Tanzania, serving not only Tanzania but also the neighboring landlocked countries of Malawi, Zambia, Burundi, Rwanda, and Uganda, along with the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Other significant seaports include Zanzibar, Tanga, and Mtwara. Due to its geographical and locational advantages, the port at Dar es Salaam serves as the gateway to East and Central Africa, making Tanzania a logical investment opportunity.
